vertical time
We are all doing it incessantly; when considering, weighing up or just simply daydreaming, we are bringing what we have previously experienced into a particular shape. Sometimes we encounter surprising connections, and occasionally irritating contradictions, and the question always arises as to whether or not we are falsifying the past in our memories. The Lucerne artist Claudia Walther reproduces this everyday leap backwards on the time-axis using artistic techniques. She photographs objects, people or landscapes and gives the large-format prints a new form, with coloured strokes, dabs and swirls. The effectiveness of the works comes from the contrast between photographic print and acrylic paint, between experiencing, remembering and reflecting. They are called Mare Nostrum, Papa or Le Parfum. But they show more than a subject: we see Claudia Walther thinking.
