EQUILIBRIUM TREMENS
During Art Week, the art world converges in Basel. The city becomes a stage for exhibitions, discussions, and encounters. I tend to follow my instincts. This was also the case nearly ten years ago when I encountered Romanian artist Giotto Doichita at Solo Project Basel. We engaged in conversation, remained in contact, and agreed to organize an exhibition in the display window. In January, I visited him in Arad and he showed me around his studio in the tower of the neo-baroque town hall. His paintings are characterized by a shaky balance – an “equilibrium tremens,” a state between oscillation and stability. Structurally anchored, yet lyrical and expressive. In short: I am thrilled by Giotto's paintings and am particularly pleased to have secured performance artist Claudia Bucher for the vernissage.
