In the Garden of My Mind
Alex Porter is used to being in the spotlight. When he sings and performs magic, all eyes are on him. What does a theatre artist do when the theatres and cultural centres are closed? He scrutinises his “garden of the mind” and discovers the power of looking. Eventually, he begins to draw. But not like everyone else, of course. He uses a tablet and turns the process of drawing on its head: a pencil applies dark shades to light paper. Porter, however, draws in white and yellow on a black screen and literally brings light to the darkness. The works show that he doesn't need a big stage in order to cast a spell over the audience.
