just around the corner
The sculptor Rochus Lussi wandered through the streets of New York with his notebook and pencil for four whole months. What fascinated him was always the glimpse around the next corner. He collected views, objects and constellations. He has been back in the country again since the end of August; or more precisely back at work in his atelier in Stans where he has created a series of new sculptures. The big city has left itsmark: Lussi’s works are more open, associative and unpredictable than before. Seriality and strict hyperrealism are a thing of the past. Where there used to be just wood, graphite and gold can also be found now; where everything used to be finished so perfectly, there is now also space for the unfinished. What has remained however is the amazing choice of motifs: as a plastic bag with baroque drapery is joined by a dozen back scratchers or a series of pillows is joined by a hare with a halo.
