Warm around the heart
Christa Mayrhofer continues a tradition: think of Albrecht Dürer's cattle mouth studies, Franz Marc's yellow cow, Roy Lichtenstein's Cow goes abstract or Andy Warhol's Cow wallpapers. The artist meets her protagonists on long walks through the Upper Austrian Mühlviertel, equipped with camera and sketchpad. None of the portrayed ruminants is like the other. Skull shape, ears, eyes and fur grain would reveal the soul of the animal, says the artist. Galerie Vitrine shows the large-format, impasto oil paintings embedded in Mayhofer's photorealistic depictions of flower meadows.
