DREAM WORLDS
The shape of a cow's skull, the grain of its coat, its ears and eyes reveal the animal's soul, said Christa Mayrhofer at her last exhibition at the Vitrine Gallery. With her “Dream Worlds,” she now looks into the souls of humans. The creaturely once again plays an important role: cows enter festive salons, pigs bed down on divans, birds swing themselves up to crystal chandeliers. Fish and falcons populate the portraits of women who have pulled nets over their heads or are hiding behind bouquets of flowers. The animal that haunts our nighttime faces has been attributed special significance since ancient times. In dream interpretation, it stands for fears, longings, or inner conflicts. Christa Mayrhofer's new works make it clear why.
