Jürg Benninger is a trained graphic artist. He comes from central Switzerland and lives in Biel. As a young artist he kept to levels and surfaces, until he discovered the third dimension. Since then the 48 year old artist has been designing and constructing sculptures. But instead of using wood, concrete or iron he stuffs crochet work objects. Art made of rods and chain-stitches? That sounds easy and harmless. But the appearance is deceptive. Benninger’s art reflects the tool: at the point of a crochet hook lurks a barb, so watch out!
